(1833) American dentist and educator Lucy Hobbs Taylor is born. She was the first female to graduate dental school.

(1854) German physician and scientist Paul Ehrlich is born. His lab discovered  arsphenamine, which was the first effective treatment for syphilis, which initiated the development of chemotherapy.  

(1942) Penicillin is used to successfully treat a patient in the US for the first time.
