(1) (1667) The first human blood transfusion is administered by Dr. Jean-Baptiste Denys.

(2) (1777) British physician David Daniel Davis is born. He published extensively on improving the design of instruments used to assist childbirth.

(3) (1915) American virologist Thomas Huckle Weller is born. He is known for contributing to the isolation or  treatment of a number of viruses, including polio, varicella, and Coxsackie viruses.
