(1817) Swiss anatomist, physiologist, and histologist Albert von Kölliker is born. He is known for his work with neurons, skin, and muscle, for which he studied their microscopic anatomy.
(1885) Louis Pasteur successfully tests his vaccine for rabies on a boy who was bitten by a rabid dog.
(1903) Swedish scientist Hugo Theorell is born. He is known for his work on ADH enzymes, which break down alcohol in the kidneys.
