July 8:

(1) (1766) French surgeon Dominique Jean Larrey is born. He served on Napoleon’s Grand Armée, providing surgery to injured soldiers.

(2) (1831) American pharmacist John Pemberton is born. He is most notably known for being the inventor of Coca-Cola which he originally made with coca wine, a wine containing cocaine.  

(3) (1857) French psychologist Alfred Binet is born. He is credited with inventing the first practical intelligence test, the Binet-Simon scale, which tested the intelligence of students.
