(1) (1884) Swedish chemist Theodor Svedberg is born. He developed the technique of analytical ultracentrifugation, and demonstrated its ability to distinguish proteins one from another.

(2) (1907) American physicist John Mauchly is born. He helped develop the first general purpose electronic digital computer.

(3) (1919) American microbiologist Maurice Hilleman is born. He developed over 40 vaccines, including vaccines for measles, mumps, Hep A & B, chickenpox and pneumonia.
