September 16

(1) (1651) German naturalist, physician, and writer Engelbert Kaempfer was born. He was known for traveling to different countries to study plants and also created a systematic description of tea.

(2) (1853) German biochemist and geneticist Albrecht Kossel was born. He won the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1910, for determining the chemical composition of nucleic acids, which include DNA and RNA.

(3) (1987) The Montreal Protocol is signed, in order to protect the ozone layer from depleting.
