(2) (1914) American medical researcher and virologist He is known for discovering and developing one of the first successful polio vaccines.

(3) (1948) Swiss chemist Paul MĂĽller wins the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discovering the insecticidal properties of DDT.
