(1979) At the University of Minnesota Hospital, the first artificial blood transmission was given to a patient. Due to their religious convictions the patient, a Jehovah’s witness refused to transmit real blood.

(1998) 46 eligible states endorsed a 206 billion tobacco settlement over health costs for treating sick smokers. In civil lawsuit history, this was the largest settlement.
