(1889) American geneticist Sewall Wright is born. His research focused on population genetics, an area of genetics that focuses on the genetic differences within and between populations.

(1890) American geneticist and educator Hermann Joseph Muller is born. He is known for his work on the impact of radiation on genetics and mutations.

(1967) Louis Washkansky dies in South Africa. He was the first man to undergo a heart transplant, and died 18 days after the operation.
